Day 8 - Rest Day

Arriving into Biarritz on Friday afternoon was a mixture of emotions. We were seriously looking forward to a day off the next day, with an opportunity to browse the town and sample some cold French beverages. However, the feeling that the trip, that took over 7 months planning, is already a third of the way through is an upsetting one. Having only started seriously cycling in January, the Access 2 Africa steam train has covered over 900 km in one week, broken personal records for a single distance during one day and still had time to enjoy a swim at various campsite pools and rivers.

As Friday was only a short ride, the team took to the beach for an afternoon of R & R. We swam, refueled on carbs and then wandered the streets of Biarritz admiring the beautiful French architecture and the beautiful French women!!

After a lazy lie in on Saturday morning we again took to the beach where today we attempted to surf. Having taken a battering by breaking waves we wandered back to the car to begin preparing for what lay ahead of us the following day. On that walk back to the car we could not help ourselves but observe more beautiful French women who deemed it acceptable to remove the bikini tops to avoid unnecessary tan lines. Something we also find very acceptable!!

The day was rounded off with support team 2 (Helen and Geoffrey Hannon) cooking a fantastic meal before an early night, before we tackling the steep and scary Pyrenees.

A special thanks must be made to Rob and Jane who steadied the ship at all times and provided us with top quality food and entertainment. Another thank you must be made to the young lady in a Biarritz nightclub that taught Rob and Freddie a dance move they will never forget!! The Twerk (Google at your pleasure!!!)
